A new industry has emerged from the rising cost of care. Medical tourism is rapidly becoming established. People are finding it less expensive to travel to India for a operation then to receive it here. In addition they often feel that they receive better care. The practice is not without risks however. If complications should arise, you are far from home. If there are problems after your return you are out of luck. There is no legal recourse to pursue. Anyone considering such a trip should do a lot of research.
An estimated one million Americans will travel out of country for medical procedures this year. Consult with your doctor prior to any such journey. Also check your insurance policy, some companies will support over the border procedures.

Prescription Drugs
The cost of medication can be a make or break point for many. I am always amazed that drugs made here are less expensive in other countries. The pharmaceutical industry has been able to lobby against citizens being abler to mail order drugs from outside the USA to protect their profits. Of course the reason that we are told is that they cannot quarantine their safety. Congress follows the money on this issue.
If you live close enough to the border, Canada or Mexico, you can travel across and save anywhere from 20% to 60% on your prescriptions. There are Pharmacies in Canada that will fill your order and ship via mail. Make sure that it is an accredited pharmacy.
